Social Issue: Drinking

Isaiah wrote: (5:11-12) Woe to those who rise early in the morning, that they may follow intoxicating drink; Who continue until night, till wine inflames them! The harp and the strings, the tambourine and flute, and wine are in their feasts; But they do not regard the work of the Lord, nor consider the operation of His hands.

Again Isaiah writes: (28:1) Woe “to those who are overcome with wine!”

Zechariah (9:15) tells us that God has a better wine to intoxicate us-- the new wine of his Spirit will fill us and we will live victorious.

Remember Daniel 1, when Daniel and his friends refused to violate their beliefs by eating the Babylonian delicacies and drinking wine, God gave them (v. 17) “Knowledge and skill in all literature and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.” God rewards us when we keep a clear head and live out of beliefs. And that’s easier to do when you maintain a clear head.
